The Packers were fined twice for unsportsmanlike hits against the Vikings
Obviously there was a lot of discourse around the referees for Sunday’s Vikings-Packers bout (the packers lost, after all…) After reviewing the footage closely, the NFL has decided to fine Evan Williams for his hit on Justin Jefferson in the 2nd quarter (everyone expected this fine), as well as Lukas Van Ness for his (uncalled) late hit on Carson Wentz. The hit to Kyler Murray that resulted in a concussion was not fined. The Vikings had zero fines. The game is over and they got smacked by 17, (RIP Packers OL and Jordan Love), but it’s kind of ironic to me that for all the talk about refs, the Packers “got away” with 2 hits that were decidedly dirty (players remained in the game). The Browns have the chance to do the most Browns thing ever
So the script is written. Bakerball delivers one in the eye to the Cleveland Klutzes for shading him in favour of a washed up sexual predator. An unparalleled display of chippiness to set fire to dreams. Yet the Bucs are not a complete team. Baker's upside is only matched by his failures at ball security and calm judgement when he's going for it all. Failure to win a must win game IS on the table. We all remember those bizarre weeks when the winless Jets somehow beat the Bills against all footballing sense and logic. And what if the Browns were to win? Firstly they go one behind in the Manning race which given the capacity of the other candidates to go 1-16 is pretty significant. And secondly they would WRECK their timeline for easing Watson out the side door. Why would you move on from him if he wins? So now they go to their home stretch tied to a QB who makes the fanbase hate the organisation with even more fervent passion, humiliating them on the broadcast with a chorus of boos, hate and missiles. The Browns would go back from what was a potentially successful managed tank to a rudderless wreck of a team with empty seats everywhere and not enough capital to significantly improve next year. The most Browns thing ever. Apart from the countless other examples. EDIT If you're wondering how someone who has enough intelligence to spell correctly and write in complete sentences could ever suggest the possibility of a Watson led Browns WINNING a game, I just started Baker in fantasy, eager to ride the revenge train! And we all know what happens when you get onboard a popular assumption and wait for the points to roll in, the football gods ZAG all over your ass!
